Island in the Sky is a mesa that projects into Canyonlands on three sides, with canyon walls dropping nearly 2,000 feet to the rivers below. Standing at the rim feels like standing at the edge of everything — the Green and Colorado rivers visible at Confluence Point far beneath you, the White Rim tracing a cream-colored terrace between the mesa and the canyon floor.
The 4x4 tour covers the district's primary overlooks alongside lesser-visited backcountry points that don't appear on the standard visitor map. Your guide turns geological time into a comprehensible story at every stop. Four hours; the Island in the Sky district sees fewer visitors than Arches but arguably offers more perspective.
